The Great Awakening, they called it. You had fiery preachers movin’ up and down the coast, scarin’ the sin right outta folks. It wasn’t cowboy church—trust me, I know—but it did kinda feel like everyone was tryin’ to out-holler the next guy about repent—like competitive karaoke, but for your soul.Wait, so this was, like, “Come for the sermon, stay for the shouting and existential guilt”? I love it! But did anyone bring snacks? Because my church camp was, honestly, about the s’mores.Ha! Not just any taxes, but the Stamp Act. Brits slap a fee on every paper and license—anything written down. Folks go from “praise the Lord” to “pass the protest sign” real quick.Ugh, honestly, if someone tried to tax my Instagram likes, I would lose it. I swear, it’s like King George wanted to be canceled. The whole Stamp Act gave main character drama energy!It was like a Texas barn raising... except instead of everyone working together, they’re just arguing and—well—throwin’ hay at the guy holdin’ the wallet. That tension exploded with things like the Boston Tea Party. Colonists saying, “Nope, not today!” and tossing all that tea in the harbor. Paul Revere, literally galloping around warning “The British are coming!” Like, he basically invented FOMO and viral messaging. I mean, Uber wishes it could deliver that much drama, right?You’re not wrong. And it wasn’t just Paul Revere—he had a whole crew, but poor Paul gets all the branding. That tension boils over, and, y’know, what you get is a full-on Revolution—shot heard ‘round the world and all. And suddenly, these colonies gotta figure out what on earth to do next—which, I gotta say, was even messier than tryin’ to split a restaurant bill in the dark.Oof, I feel that deep down. So, now they’ve kicked out King George’s emojis or whatever, it’s time for the ultimate group project: figuring out how to be, like, an actual country. Yikes.Honestly, I’ve never seen group projects go well. Not in school, and apparently, not in early America. These states roll up with the Articles of Confederation—kinda like “let’s just wing it, no rules!” And, um… surprise, it’s a hot mess?Oh, it was bad. The Articles were so weak, you could sneeze and knock ‘em over. The states acted like siblings on a road trip—no one wants to share snacks, and when the wagon breaks, everyone blames Delaware. That’s the period where they realize “uh, we actually do need some rules, y’all.”All I’m picturing is the Founding Fathers in, like, group therapy. “George, how does Thomas’s note-taking make you FEEL?”Well, George Washington basically presided over them at the Constitutional Convention in 1787. He wasn’t wearing a whistle, but it would’ve fit. He’s sittin’ there like the world’s sternest but somehow patient camp counselor—making sure nobody started a food fight with the Virginia Plan. And that’s how we finally wrangled ourselves a Constitution. Cowboys always read the rulebook, even if they gotta rewrite it first.I feel like that’s why he’s on the dollar bill—ultimate camp counselor energy.
